Regional Black Canadians Forum

BC response to The International Decade for People of African Descent

The African Arts &  Cultural Society is planning to host a community forum focused on the International Decade for People of African Descent. The forum will tackle the following topics: Black Ownership & Generating Wealth, Media Representation, Arts & Black Identity, Mental & Physical Health, Accessing Justice & Community Safety, Migration & Inclusion, Education, Democratic Engagement, Access to Affordable Housing and Shelter.

The Decade is significant as it promotes respect, protection, and fulfilment of human rights of people of African Descent. We believe that this event is line with the objectives of celebrating Black History Month.

We hope to welcome residents from neighbouring cities such as Nanaimo, Vancouver and beyond as well as official dignitaries. Attendees will attend each session, which will be moderated by topic expert. Attendees will also be welcome to take part in a scheduled itinerary which includes visits to the Legislature, Government House, and other local areas of interest.

The event takes place on February 6 & 7, 2020 in the Greater Victoria Public Library.

Outcome: Pulchérie Mboussi founder and Managing Director of the  African Arts & Cultural Society is looking forward to collaborating with organizations across the BC, as her works to support organizations across the province, the country removing racial barriers and improving economic and social outcomes for Black Canadians.
